How To Find An Oil Leak
To find an oil leak, start by parking your vehicle on a clean, dry surface and checking underneath for fresh oil spots or puddles. Open the hood and inspect the engine bay for wet, dark, or shiny areas around seals, gaskets, and hoses. Common leak points include the valve cover gasket, oil filter, oil pan, drain plug, and rear main seal. Wipe the suspected area clean, then run the engine and look for new signs of seepage. For hard-to-spot leaks, adding UV dye to the oil and using a UV light can help trace the source more accurately.
